Community nursing care under the NDIS

Some NDIS participants require assistance from a nurse for their ongoing medical needs, either to directly manage their care, or to assist with increasing the capacity of participants or their family to manage these care needs.

Some capacity building nursing supports which the NDIS may fund include:

  • Training by a nurse to provide you, a carer, or a support worker to manage things like medication prompting and simple wound care.
  • Assessment by a qualified nurse on what services and level support you need (e.g. a continence assessment).
  • Advise and education on appropriate safety equipment in the home.

All NDIS funded nursing services must be related to your disability (that is, they are long-term needs and not short-term/injury related) and assist you to improve your wellbeing. They are usually delivered over a short period of time and stop once your capacity to manage your own care has been built (unless you have more complex needs). Learn more about what will and won’t be funded here.

Services and training may cover areas such as:
